Spec the Halls: A Winter Celebration of the Weird and the Fantastic
02/17/2008
Many moons ago, I agreed to let an editor use one of my pictures (starring Eli Weintraub) as the cover for Queen of the Country, a posthumous commemorative volume of dark, surreal short stories by D.G.K. Goldberg. It's published! The selection of stories sounds entirely interesting. And of course, the cover art (ahem) is totally kick-ass.

I discovered that third-party code that started out being useful and harmless (a statistics aggregator) became first useless, and now actively harmful. It was redirecting viewers of the webpage to a pr0n site. I didn't remove it when it became useless because it was only on the oldest layer of this site, which I'm keeping up only because I have website space to spare. None of the new or important parts of the website were affected, but now I have to go back and take out this tiny bit of code from all pages that were created a certain amount of time ago.

I've decided to run a contest for speculative winter holiday-themed fiction, artwork, and poetry. I may be crazy, but I think this could be very good. We'll see how it goes. The contest's main page is here.

"Blood for Oil," a short horror story, has been published at Allegory. "Blood for Oil" is a short story about an oil company executive charged with finding new energy resources who finds one that has less to do with science and more to do with black magic. Continuing the pattern of which of my stories get published, it's straight-up horror with an environmental twist and a conspiracy-theory kicker.

Yes, it's been a while! The black and white photography series, Grit, is finally all the way up! Also, in exciting news, one of the photographs from the Noir::Color series will be used for the cover of the anthology "Queen of the Country," a short story collection in honor of DGK Goldberg.

I'm in the process of completely revamping this website, making it more "photo series"-friendly. I purchased a domain name, http://www.aswiebe.com, and I'm changing the format and layout of the photo pages. I've simply included archived links to the old photography, without tinkering with their layout. Currently I've got a Daydreaming of Belize exhibit up, and a Noir::Color exhibit. I'm working on a St. Valentine's Day exhibit--adding more pages--and also on a black&white photography exhibit, focussing on the urban aspect. Hurrah for living in a city!

New photos added for Chase Rude, Cameron Vincent, Genevieve Woodward, Colleen Laird, and Uriah McKinney.

I've deleted the "who's looking" page, primarily because, although amusing, it generated even more false hits (on things like 'Cameron Electra').I've added the beginnings of a complete catalog of all my photography and I've posted a new picture to the family photography page. More to follow.

New photos have been posted: to Erin Cole's, andstrangers' pages.Oh, and I finished the rough draft of my novel.
04/14/02
Uriah McKinney has gained his own spot of recognition, with photos accordingly. Some are older than when they were posted. Much older.

Updated the Recently Searched page. Hmm. Novel is taking longer to finish than I thought. Of course, I do tend to underestimate how long it will take me to finish such things.
03/18/02
I have added a new page which lists what search terms result in hits on my site, over the span of a week.

Thumbnails of Lindsey have been posted to view. New picture up in the Group section. My novel is going quite well; I should have the rough draft finished in about 3-4 weeks, at which point I'll spend 1-2 months editing and putting additional material up on a website for it. Then I will try to get the thing published. Anyone know a good publisher interested in a fantasy/western/alternate-history novel set in West Africa?

No new pictures are up, and this is the explanation why. My computer has been threatening death for quite some time; this week it finally gave its death rattle, and on Saturday we bought a new computer. This means I can start scanning again! The speed at which new photos are posted may not be that high, mostly because I've quit work to write a novel. That is where most of my energy is right now. Hopefully, once I get adjusted to my new schedule I will have more time for messing with the website.

I've messed around a lot with the format of my linked pages, mostly just cosmetic changes. I've posted a new photo to Cole Sarar's page.Outside of what's on these pages, I've been taking a weekend class on black and white photography from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD). In the next few weeks, some of what I've worked on and printed in that class will find its way up here.

This page, among other things. My scanner is having problems getting along with my computer, so I have been unable to post new photographs since 08/01/01.
